What about the true energetic meaning from which words came - and have you seen where the colloquial use often is almost opposite from that? Would this possibly create confusion? Might that be the intention?

    my favorite writing device
    is to use a commonly known word
    and use it in a correct but uncomfortable context

      That's interesting. How do you mean?

        Here is a not so good example
        but it works nonetheless

        "He stands transfixed on the middle plateau between the top and bottom of a bipartisan staircase. Above him are his dreams in a loft bedroom without walls. Below is reality, and work, and life set at different levels from a living space and workroom to a cargo elevator into the city. "

        "Bipartisan" is comfortably used
        to describe a political system
        rather than a staircase.
        All peer critiques have had difficulties with it
        and suggest other words;
        however, bipartisan also represents a choice
        as does the staircase in the story.
        Not just of up or down
        but of dreams or life, memories or work,
        past or present, republican or democrat.

        i will see if i can find another example.
